How the Programme Works
Where could two days take you? For 50 students, EmpowerED will be the first step into the worlds of law and tech: real insight into how these industries work, honest conversations with the professionals shaping them, and a clearer sense of the path ahead. Applications are competitive, so don’t leave yours until the last minute.
Application process
Our straightforward three-stage process is designed to ensure every selected participant is ready to make the most of the programme.
Stage 1
Submit Your Application
Review the programme guide carefully, then complete and submit your application form before the deadline. Make sure to highlight your interest and motivation for exploring a future in science and healthcare.
Stage 2
Parental Consent
During the review process, we may require consent from a parent or guardian before confirming your participation. Where requested, this consent is a mandatory part of the application process.
Stage 3
Confirmation
Once our team has reviewed all submissions, successful applicants will receive a confirmation along with detailed information on how to attend and make the most of the day.

Who should apply
- Be between 16 and 18 years old at the time of the programme
- Be able to attend in person on both days: Day 1 takes place at the IBM Waterloo office (Tech Stream) or the White & Case Bank office (Law Stream), and Day 2 brings both streams together at the White & Case Bank office
- Be motivated and eager to learn about tech or law, with a genuine desire to develop your professional skills
- Be able to provide parental or guardian consent if requested during the application process

EmpowerED is open to students aged 16 to 18 who are curious about careers in law or tech and keen to develop their life skills, leadership qualities, and career prospects.
No prior knowledge is required. You don't need to be top of your class or have everything figured out. We're looking for curious, motivated students with a genuine interest in exploring careers in law or tech, whatever your current grades or experience.
EmpowerED runs over two days. On Day 1, you'll attend the stream you've been selected for: the Tech Stream at the IBM Waterloo office or the Law Stream at the White & Case Bank office. On Day 2, both streams come together at the White & Case Bank office for a combined day of workshops and networking.
Participants are selected based on their application form, so take your time and let your motivation come through. Places are limited, and early applicants are prioritised. We also prioritise students from typically underrepresented groups, including those eligible for free school meals, female or non-binary students, and students from ethnic minority backgrounds.
No, the programme is completely free for all selected students. All sessions, activities, and materials are provided at no cost to you or your family. Please note that participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the programme venues.
Yes, lunch and refreshments will be provided on both days. Just let us know in advance about any dietary requirements or allergies and we'll take care of it.
Just bring a notebook, a pen, and an open mind, ready to learn, engage, and make the most of the two days! We'll send a short joining guide beforehand with anything else you might need.
After applications close, our team will carefully review every submission and notify all applicants of the outcome by email. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation with all the further details they need to prepare for the programme, including their stream and venue information.
